Some sweets are good for kids

The food we eat every day contains increasing levels of sugar, fat and artificial additives. For children especially this is unhealthy and likely to shorten their life expectancies. While public concern over obesity rises, political pressure on the food industry remains insufficient to remedy Europe...

Climate Change / Transport / Energy

We want to avoid the dangerous effects of climate change and end Europe's dependence on fossil fuels and nuclear power. For this we need an energy revolution. Our future society has to be based on the efficient and careful use of energy and renewables.

An introduction to the labyrinth called WTO

AgriCulture and WTO: Free Trade Problems – Fair Trade Solutions

The WTO claims free trade will help the poor farmers in developing countries. This is a great myth. Only big transnational companies profit from the current system supported by EU- and USA-policies. There is urgent need for a real fair trade system including the end of EU export subsidies.

Situation in Iraq

Iraq is only one of the many countries world-wide allegedly in possession of weapons of mass destruction. We stress the importance to increased world-wide efforts towards arms reduction as well as the ultimate goal of replacing warfare as a means of policy by negotiated conflict resolution.

Terrorist attacks on USA

The Greens/EFA Group condemned, in the strongest possible terms, the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington. In the European Parliamentary debate the Greens/EFA Co-President described the terrorists' actions as ‘an attack on human civilization' and a 'crime against humanity'.

Background document: AgriCulture / Food Security / Fair Trade

At the moment international agriculture policies are dominated by trade concerns. Instead, we need a new regional approach which focuses on farming and food security as well as social policies. WTO trade agreements should not undermine national legislation in these fields. (pdf)

Towards a Real European Policy on Immigration and Asylum

For decades EU states have tried to reduce the number of immigrants - both asylum seekers and labour immigrants - to a minimum. They failed neglecting the fact that all migration is a natural phenomenon. We call for a fair regulation of migration into the EU which fully respects human rights.
